Investing in the People Who Help Others Heal
Across Asia, many communities are supporting survivors of trafficking, violence, exploitation, and conflict. However, there are far too few trained practitioners to meet the need.
Lasting change requires more than individual programs. Sustainable healing depends on strong local systems, trained caregivers, and organisations with the capacity to provide safe, high-quality survivor support, counselling and trauma therapy.
At Shining Within, we invest in people and organisations to strengthen the systems that make survivor care possible, through two connected tracks: scholarships for future practitioners, and training for those already on the front lines.
Our Programs
Upskilling the Existing Workforce
Many caregivers are already supporting survivors but have limited access to specialised training. We invest in training and professional development for frontline workers in areas such as:
- Trauma-informed care
- Trauma therapy
- Survivor-centred care
- Cultural healing approaches
- Vicarious trauma prevention
- Safeguarding and ethical care
Strengthening the existing workforce helps ensure that survivors receive safe, respectful, and high-quality support, while also protecting the wellbeing of the caregivers who provide it.
Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students
We fund students from disadvantaged backgrounds to study fields that contribute to survivor support and trauma recovery, including:
- Counselling
- Social work
- Psychology
- Psychosocial support
- Community trauma care
Many scholarship recipients return to serve their own communities after graduating, building a new generation of caregivers with the knowledge, compassion, and cultural understanding survivors need.
Why it Matters
Every survivor deserves access to safe, compassionate, trauma-informed care. But without skilled caregivers and strong local organisations, that support simply isn't available to everyone who needs it.
